Earlier this year, two orphaned cougar cubs were discovered in Alberta after their mother was killed by a poacher. According to the law, they should have been euthanized.
Thanks to the intervention of Serge Lussier, President and CEO of Parc Safari and Chair of the Accreditation Commission of Canada’s Association of Zoos and Aquariums, a solution was found. With the help of partners in Calgary and Vancouver, the two young cougars were cared for and rehabilitated for five months, while a new, specially designed habitat was built here at Parc Safari.
Today, these two young cougars have found refuge in a safe, respectful, and sustainable environment.
A worldwide contest was launched to choose their names, which will be revealed on September 6.
